AUSTIN, Texas –
Sean Phillips went 6-of-7 from behind the arc, tallying a season-high 20 points and the Concordia Texas men's basketball team secured their fourth win in their last five games with a 91-68 defeat of Sul Ross State on Saturday.
The Tornados, who were coming off their best offensive performance of the season in a 38-point win over Howard Payne on Thursday, continued to be efficient, shooting 56% from the field, including a 48% mark from downtown.
From outside the arc, Phillips was nearly flawless, knocking down his first five 3-pointers of the game till his lone miss at the 12:05 mark in the second half. He finished the afternoon 7-of-8 from the floor, producing 20 points, his highest offensive output since joining the program.
Antoine Henderson, meanwhile, was a workhorse inside the arc, shooting 8-of-11 from the field and finishing with 17 points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
In the first half, the teams would exchange the lead six times and were knotted up at 14-all after Henderson's layup with 11:33 to play.
Concordia Texas utilized an 18-4 run, powered by
DJ Pigford, to break open a double-digit advantage.
Pigford tied his career-high with 15 points for the game, reaching double figures for the fourth game in a row.
Phillips would hit his fourth 3-pointer of the half in the final seconds and the Tornados took a 41-26 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, CTX continued to shoot the ball well, going 8-for-11 from behind the arc and finished shooting 68% from the floor.
Trevon Hester was influential in the Tornados' offense, scoring eight of his 10 points in the second period, meanwhile,
Luis Gonzalez impacted the game by dishing out a team-high six assists on the afternoon.
Concordia Texas would take a lead as big as 31 points after
Adolfo Martinez's 3-pointer with 3:23 to play, cruising to a 91-68 victory to remain undefeated at home and picking up their fourth win in their last five games.
Next, the Tornados will head out on the road, taking on Belhaven on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Jackson, Miss.
