A trio of Tornados scored over 20 points on Saturday.

AUSTIN, Texas - In their first win over a top-10 opponent since January 2010, Concordia Texas men's basketball outlasted #9 UMHB 81-77 in the conference opener. A trio of Tornados scored over 20 points inside the CTX Fieldhouse on Saturday.

Concordia (16-34 3PM) made 10 more threes than the Crusaders, while shooting a season-high 47 percent from beyond the arc.

Both teams were knotted up early at 25-25 when UMHB used a 13-5 burst to take an eight-point advantage with 3:50 left. The Tornados would finish the half strong, and would cut the deficit to 43-40 with a find from Branden Myart to Antoine Henderson for a layup right before halftime.

CTX tied the game up at 47-all when Adolfo Martinez swung the ball to Jaylon Johnson for a top-of-the-key three with 15:38 remaining. An and-one by Luis Gonzalez with just over 13 minutes remiaining would give Concordia their first lead of the game since the 8:25 mark of the first half.

With both teams trading baskets with the time waning down the Tornados trailed 75-74 when Martinez found Johnson once again for a wide-open three with 1:08 left. CTX would hold strong defensively and make their free throws to secure the signature victory.

Concordia Texas will next travel to Marshall, Texas to take on East Texas Baptist in their first conference road contest of the season. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
