Women's Basketball Explodes in Third Quarter to Take Down Texas Lutheran 84-63

The Tornados' win streak reaches four games.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas women's team dominated the third quarter (29-9) in an 84-63 victory over Texas Lutheran University. The win for the Tornados stands as the largest margin of victory against their in-state foes. A trio of Tornados in Madi Maxwell, Alena Johnston and Chelsea Cogborn reached double-digit scoring inside the Concordia Fieldhouse on Friday.

The Tornados shot a season-best and season-high 22-23 from the free throw line, and held TLU to 25.4 percent shooting from the field.

CTX trailed 16-15 midway through the second quarter, until Havyn Perez found Zakari Perry on a mid-range jumper to spark a 13-3 run for Concordia. Up five in the final minute of the first half, the Tornados extended the lead to 30-23 when Maxwell dished a bullet pass to Cogborn for a layup.

The Bulldogs scored the first basket of the third quarter, but Concordia shot 61.1 percent from the field in the third frame to take control of the game. Taking a 59-32 advantage into the final quarter, the Tornados would hold steady to win their final non-conference matchup of the season and cruise to their fourth straight win.

Concordia Texas will next return to conference play as they travel to Richardson, TX to take on UT-Dallas on January 5th. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
