AUSTIN, Texas –
Alexander Estrada scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half, knocking down five 3-pointers, while
Donovan Stafford had a near double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds as the Concordia Texas men's basketball team fell short to Mary Hardin-Baylor 82-73 on Monday inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
The Tornados, playing their fifth game in their last nine days, began their final home stand of the regular season, hosting the Cru.
Concordia Texas utilized their long-range shooting throughout the night, led by Estrada, who finished 5-of-10 from downtown. Meanwhile,
Sean Phillips, off the bench, had 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting from behind the arc.
In the first half, the Tornados held the early edge and took their largest lead at the 11:33 mark after
Trevon Hester's layup made it 14-9. Mary Hardin-Baylor, though, chipped away and used an 8-2 run to go in front 29-21.
Phillips knocked down his second 3-pointer of the half and CTX headed to the locker room trailing 38-32.
In the second half, the Tornados heated up, shooting 52% from the field.
Estrada was efficient from behind the arc, going 4-of-7 in the half, while Stafford and
Antoine Henderson had seven points and six points, respectively.
Concordia Texas, who trailed by 13 at one point early in the period, rallied, closing the gap to 50-44 after Stafford's layup.
Mary Hardin-Baylor, though, pulled away once again, using a 16-5 run to take their largest advantage of the night at 66-49.
The Tornados were unable to mount another late rally, falling to the Cru 82-73.
Henderson finished the night with eight points, while
Jaden Ross scored all eight of his points in the second half.
Cameron Jones only had two points, but dished out six assists.
Concordia Texas will have a quick turnaround, returning to the court on Thursday, hosting East Texas Baptist at 7:30 p.m. inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
