AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's tennis team won all three doubles matches and held off a late comeback by Schreiner in singles play, securing their third consecutive win with a 5-4 decision on Saturday at River Place Country Club.
The Tornados jumped out to a 3-0 advantage early in the match, sweeping all three doubles matches.
Natalia Goodman and
Kayla Pena earned the first point for CTX, taking an 8-3 win at line two, while
Claire Austin and
Trinity Klamecki took care of the Mountaineers' Stefanie Madamba and Blair Villarreal at line three 8-6 to make it a 2-0 edge.
Isabella Wiik and
Kaitlin Stevens completed the doubles sweep, defeating Hannah Reyna and Victoria Morales at line one, 8-6.
In singles, Wiik and
Emily Hines each went to three sets in their matches, but came out on the losing end, falling at line one and six, respectively.
Klamecki though, put CTX back in the win column, earning the fourth point of the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at line five. Pena clinched the victory for the Tornados at line two, defeating Morales in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 to complete the 5-4 decision.
It is the third win in a row for CTX, opening 2-0 at home after defeating Texas Lutheran on Friday.
The Tornados will next head to Georgetown, Texas to face Southwestern on Wednesday, at 5 p.m. at the Marvin D. Henderson Sr. Tennis Courts.
