ABILENE, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's tennis team took home a victory in their American Southwest Conference opener, besting McMurry 6-3 Saturday.
The Tornados began the day in a 1-2 hole after losing two of three doubles matches, but battled back to win five of six singles matches for the victory.
Kayla Pena and
Natalia Goodman teamed up for the Tornados' lone doubles win, taking a commanding 8-1 victory at line two for their third consecutive win as a team.
In singles play, Pena picked up her second win of the day, toppling McM's Turner 6-1, 6-1, and
Isabella Wiik followed with another straight-sets victory, taking down DeFriend 6-0, 6-3 at line two.
At line four, Goodman dropped the first set tiebreaker but came back to win the next two, ultimately earning the 4-6, 7-5, 10-2 win.
Trinity Klamecki did not lose a single game in the second set, winning 6-1, 6-0 over Parker at line five, and
Kaitlin Stevens wrapped things up with 6-3, 6-1 victory at line six.
Next, Concordia Texas will continue ASC play with a match at home, hosting Hardin-Simmons at River Place Country Club in Austin, Texas on Saturday.
