AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team did not drop a single set, pushing their win streak to five straight after defeating East Texas Baptist 9-0 on Saturday at River Place Country Club.
The Tornados, who have not dropped a match since its season opener on Feb. 12, continued to dominant on the court, collecting their third shutout of the season.
Concordia Texas went in front 3-0 in the match after sweeping all three doubles matches.
Esteban Arredondo and
Andres Padilla teamed up at line and held off the Tigers' Christian Dubec and Brycen Fears for an 8-6 win. Meanwhile,
Joshua Bode and
Nico De La Pena made quick work at line two for an 8-2 victory.
Evan Pena Jr. and
Jorge Garcia wrapped up the doubles play with an 8-3 win over Slade Austin and Parker Stewart at line three.
The Tornados continued the winning momentum in singles, sweeping all six matches.
Bode and Arredondo barely broke a sweat, winning in straight sets at line one and two, respectively.
Garcia only dropped only one game on his way to a 6-1, 6-0 win at line four, while teammate Pena Jr. took down Parker Stewart 6-3, 6-2 at line three to make it 7-0 for the match.
Padilla picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win at line five and De La Pena secured the shutout with a 7-5, 6-2 decision at line six.
Next, CTX will take their win streak on the road out west, traveling to McMinnville, Ore., to face Linfield on March 13.
