Tornados take series finale over UT Dallas

AUSTIN, Texas – Locked in a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth, the Concordia Texas Softball team ended the weekend with some late-inning heroics as Megan Hooper's RBI triple lifted them to a 4-3 win over UT Dallas in the series finale.

The Comets took an early lead in the game, but the Tornados' comeback effort ended in a victory, stopping the recent skid and earning them a victory in game three of the series.

Ashley Hallmark went 2-for-3 on the day, scoring two runs and driving in one on a solo homer, and Caylee Spangle picked up two hits, two stolen bases, a run scored in her first career start.

Tisdale turned in a quality start in the circle, limiting the Comets to one earned run in 6.1 innings of work.

UT Dallas wasted no time in getting the offense started, stringing together two hits and taking advantage of a CTX error to take a 2-0 in the opening frame.

Hallmark cut into the lead in the bottom half, blasting a solo homerun over the left field wall to bring the score to 2-1.

The game remained quiet as both Tisdale and the opposing pitcher settled into a groove, and after four and a half innings, the score remained 2-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, Erica Riley provided an RBI single, driving in Hallmark and tying the game at 2-2.

After Tisdale retired the top of the sixth in order, the Tornados would earn the lead plus some insurance in the bottom half of the inning. Spangle legged out an infield single and advanced to scoring position with a stolen base, and Hooper delivered the RBI three-bagger. Next, Nadia Lopez stepped in as a pinch hitter, driving in Hooper with an RBI fielder's choice and giving CTX a 4-2 lead.

UT Dallas threatened in the final frame, plating a run, but Chaynau Johnson entered the game to close it out, making quick work of the final two outs and earning her first save of the season.

Next, Concordia Texas will take a break from conference play, traveling to San Antonio for a 12 p.m. doubleheader at Trinity on Saturday.
