GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team clinched the American Southwest Conference West Division Championship with a 5-4 win over Hardin-Simmons Thursday.
The Tornados, who took home the 2021 ASC Championship after a 3-0 run at the conference tournament, secured the 2022 ASC West Division Championship and the right to host this years' ASC Tournament.
This is the second West Division Championship in program history, the first coming in 2019.
Concordia Texas lost two of three doubles matches but prevailed in singles play, winning four of six matches and securing the team victory.
The lone doubles win came at line one as
Joshua Bode and
Adrian Munguia teamed up to take down the HSU pair 8-5.
In singles play, Bode battled to a third set after winning a tiebreaker in the second, but he ultimately fell 6-0, 7-6, 4-1 at line one.
Munguia picked up the win at line two, recovering after the first set and securing a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory.
At line three,
Esteban Arredondo took the first set but was unable to pick up the match win 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Evan Pena Jr. bested O'Shea at line four, taking the win in three sets by a score of 6-3, 6-7, 6-3.
Andres Padilla dominated at line five, cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 win, and
Jorge Garcia capped off singles play with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at line six.
Concordia Texas will return to action Saturday, hosting Sul Ross State for the regular season finale at 9 a.m.
