Tornados take series opener, split doubleheader with McMurry

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas softball team earned a 2-1 win in the series opener to give themselves the opportunity for a series win, splitting the doubleheader with McMurry Friday.

In game one, the Tornados manufactured a pair of runs in the third inning and received a stellar outing from Bailey Tisdale in the circle, holding on for a 2-1 win.

Tisdale tossed 6.2 innings in the game, scattering seven hits and striking out two along the way to earn the win. Keely Etchison earned the save in relief, getting the call to slam the door for the final out.

The Tornados' damage came in the third inning, as an RBI squeeze bunt from Pavlicek plated the first run of the game. Next, Megan Hooper delivered a sacrifice fly, bringing Kylie Woods aroud to score and giving the Tornados a 2-0 lead.

With a 2-0 lead in her pocket, Tisdale continued to roll through the McMurry lineup. After six innings, she had yet to allow a run and CTX held a 2-0 advantage.

In the seventh inning, McMurry strung together three consecutive two-out hits to score a run, but Etchison entered the game and made quick work of the final batter, throwing a flyout to centerfield and securing the 2-1 victory.

In game two, the Tornados recorded five hits but were unable to bring home a run, ultimately falling 4-0.

McMurry opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead with an RBI walk.

In the bottom half, the Tornados loaded the bases after a hit from Ellie Congalton, a fielder's choice from Erica Riley, and a walk from Kylie Woods, but a screaming line drive from the bat of Pavliceck found the glove of the McM first baseman and the Tornados were doubled up to end the inning without a run.

In the following frame, a two-RBI double extended the McMurry lead to 3-0.

McMurry struck again in the fourth, producing an RBI groundout to push the advantage to 4-0.

Chaynau Johnson was solid in relief tossing three shutout innings and allowing only two hits, but the Tornados were unable to close the gap and ultimately fell 4-0.

Concordia Texas will close out the regular season with the series finale Saturday. Prior to the 1 p.m. first pitch, the program will take a moment to honor its seniors with a senior day ceremony at Tornado Softball Field.
