Tornados topple Howard Payne, remain undefeated in conference play

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team put forth another dominating performance, besting Howard Payne 8-1 Saturday.
 
The Tornados won two of three doubles match and delivered a clean 6-0 sweep of singles play, toppling the Yellowjackets at Nabers Tennis Center.
 
Joshua Bode and Evan Pena Jr. teamed up for the first time this spring, taking down the HPU duo 8-2 at line one.
 
Another new pairing, Andres Padilla and Joeri Bregman, earned an 8-3 win at line three for CTX's second doubles victory.
 
In singles play, the Tornados won every match in straight sets.
 
Bode picked up his third straight win in singles play, besting Gates 6-1, 6-2 at line one, and Esteban Arredondo followed with his third consecutive win as well, toppling Green 6-2, 6-2.
 
Padilla advanced to a 7-1 record in singles play this season, dominating HPU's Hunter 6-1, 6-1 at line three, and Pena Jr. won line four by a score of 7-5, 6-1.
 
Jorge Garcia was next, cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at line five, and Nico De La Pena rounded out singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 line six win.
 
The Tornados advance to a 9-3 record overall and 2-0 in American Southwest Conference Play as they head down the stretch of the regular season.
 
Concordia Texas will return to the court on Thursday, traveling to Belton, Texas for an ASC showdown with Mary Hardin-Baylor at 1 p.m.
