Volleyball Falters at McMurry

Four Tornados tallied double-doubles.

BOX SCORE ABILENE, Texas - The Concordia Texas volleyball team put up a fight in a 3-1 loss to the McMurry Warhawks. Kinsy Haschke (20 kills, 16 digs), Sarah Ghormley (18 kills, 16 digs), Krystal Gundy (15 assists, 10 digs) and Selena Cooper (19 digs, 17 assists) all tallied double doubles, while Dani Wysocki marked a game-high and career-high 25 digs inside Kimbrell Arena on Tuesday. 

CTX sprinted to a 5-0 lead and their lead grew to as much as 22-14 in set one. The War Hawks clawed their way back into the game to take a 25-24 advantage. Both teams traded points until McMurry claimed a 29-27 victory.

The Warhawks then raced to a 5-0 lead of their own in the second set, but a kill by junior right-side hitter Rayna Pack evened the match up at 6-6. Fighting for advantage in the match, both teams were deadlocked at 24-24. McMurry would eventually come out on top to take a 2-0 series lead.

Both teams were tied 13-13 midway through set three before McMurry gained separation with a 5-0 burst. The Tornados fought their way back into the game and take the lead at 22-21 with an ace by Gundy. With the score tied 24-all, Pack and Haschke notched back-to-back kills to force a game four.

With both teams tied 12-12 in the fourth set, the Warhawks took control via a 13-5 run to win the match.

CTX will be back in action this Friday, Sept. 23 when they host UMHB at 6 p.m.
