BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas volleyball team was victorious in a four-set, ASC conference showdown against the UMHB Crusaders. First-year setter Selena Cooper sparked CTX with a career-high 47 assists to go along with 15 digs inside the Concordia Fieldhouse on Friday.
Sarah Ghormley (23 digs, 16 kills) and Kinsy Haschke (22 kills, 16 digs) once against posted double-doubles for the Tornados. Sophomore outsdie hitter Jennika Willis also shined with a career-high 12 kills. Junior libero Kaitlyn Ruiz also reached double figures with 22 digs.
With the score tied 9-9 in the first set, UMHB went on a run to take a 19-11 advantage. The Tornados used a late surge to make it a 21-19 game, but the Crusaders held on for the victory in set one.
Game two saw back-and-forth action for a 20-20 tie late in the set. The Tornados gained separation and tied the match at one game apiece thanks to back-to-back aces by Savannah Kari to spark the victory.
The Tornados took control in set three when a kill by Abi Hilpert sparked a 4-0 run for CTX. Finding a groove, Concordia Texas cruised to a 25-18 win.
Both teams traded runs throughout the pivotal fourth set which resulted in them being deadlocked at 22-all. Kills by Ghormley and Willis helped secure the match victory for CTX.
Concordia Texas will next host Southwestern University on Tuesday, Sept. 27 with first serve set for 6 p.m.
