AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas women's basketball team showed resilience with their comeback effort in a 84-78 loss to Hardin-Simmons. Senior guard
Madi Maxwell posted a career-high 24 points to go along with a season-high 10 rebounds inside the CTX Fieldhouse on Saturday.
Both teams traded runs in the first quarter. The Cowgirls lead 14-13, and finished the quarter on an 8-2 run.
Jordan Bravo came alive early in the second quarter with a made jumper to start the frame. She then capped off a 13-4 burst by the Tornados when she was fouled on three-point attempt and knocked down all three free throws to give CTX their first lead of the game at 28-26. Hardin-Simmons answered with a 16-4 run right before half to help take a 44-33 lead into the intermission.
Havyn Perez scored nine of the Tornados' 22 points in the third quarter. She scored on a pair of free throws to open the third, and helped lead a comeback effort where Concordia tied the game at 55-all with just over a minute left in the quarter. The Cowgirls responded once again with five straight points to end the quarter, but the Tornados reclaimed a 61-60 lead following a jumper by
Chelsea Cogborn.
Her jumper initiated the first of six lead changes in the final quarter. A Maxwell jumper made the score 69-69, and Hardin-Simmons took a two-point lead immediately after. This would be the final lead change of the game as HSU outlasted CTX in the ASC matchup.
Concordia Texas will have a week off before they travel to Belton, Texas to take on UMHB next Saturday Tip off is set for 1 p.m.
