CLARKSVILLE, Ark - Five members of the Concordia Texas men's basketball team reached double figures in scoring in a 101-85 victory over the University of the Ozarks. CTX never trailed in the game as freshman guard Jaylon Johnson posted a career-high 28 points inside Mabee Gymnasium on Saturday.
The Tornados outscored the Eagles 64-42 in points in the paint and converted 15 turnovers by the Ozarks into 19 points. CTX also shot 50.7 percent from the field and a season best 87.5 percent (21-24)Â Â from the charity stripe.
With the game tied 4-4 early, a steal by Luis Gonzalez (seven steals) resulted in a layup by Donovan Stafford to kick off a 11-1 run. The Tornados led by as much as 14 points in the first half, but the Eagles cut the deficit to 35-32 with 7:43 remaining in the half. CTX would hold steady as their 57 points was their highest output in a half this season.
Leading 57-48 to start the second half, Concordia kept their foot on the gas with a free throw by Antoine Henderson at the 10:17 mark giving them their largest lead of the game at 89-62. Ultimately, the Tornados cruised to a victory in the conference matchup.
Concordia Texas will now return home to host McMurry University on January 12th. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
