Volleyball Upended in Four Sets Against Sul Ross

The Tornados won game one.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas volleyball team was upended 3-1 against Sul Ross State University. The Tornados won game one in the competitive match at the CTX Fieldhouse on Friday night.

Game one was tied 12-12, before CTX used an 8-2 burst capped off with an ace by Selena Cooper. The Lobos would come within three points, but a Presley Bunting killed secured the 25-19 game one win.

Both teams traded runs for a 19-all tie late in the second frame. Sul Ross posted four straight points, before Olivia Robinson and Nicole Deering cut the deficit in half. The Lobos would earn the final two points of the game to tie the match.

The Lobos surged to an early 10-4 advantage, before a kill by Robinson sparked a Tornados run to make it 13-10. Sul Ross would hold on and keep enough distance throughout the game for a 25-19 win and the series lead.

With momentum on their side, Sul Ross jumped out to a 17-7 lead. Clawing their way back into the matchup, Concordia made it an 18-15 game but the Lobos would score 10 of the last 13 points to win the match.

Concordia Texas will resume action in less than 24 hours where they will host Howard Payne at 1 pm.
