AUSTIN, Texas - the Concordia Texas men's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season in a 109-102 sprint against Schreiner University. Junior guard guards Donovan Stafford and DJ Pigford combined for 49 points and 16 rebounds inside the Concordia Fieldhouse on Wednesday.
The Mountaineers came out hot with a 10-2 run in the first three minutes. The Tornados stormed back immediately and took a 15-14 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first.Â
Both teams would trade baskets until Schreiner claimed a 33-27 advantage at the 3:34 mark. Concordia responded once again with a 13-0 flurry capped off by a pair of threes by Stafford and a steal and layup by Pigford. CTX would take a 42-41 lead into half.
Carrying momentum out the intermission, Concordia's lead expanded to as much as nine at the 13:35 mark. With the Mountaineers chipping at the deficit, they retook the lead at 78-77 with just under nine minutes left. Their lead would reach as much as 12, and they would nurse it to a victory.
Concordia Texas will now hit the road for their first away game in Seguin, Texas. They will take on Texas Lutheran next Tuesday, Nov. 21st at 6pm.
