AUSTIN,Texas- The Concordia Texas women's basketball team had a valiant effort in their comeback attempt, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor survived 78-70. Sophomore guard Jordan Bravo notched career-highs of 20 points and five steals in the conference opener on Saturday.
Concordia came out firing on all cylinders with back-to-back threes by Bravo and Kallie Krenz and a block by Chelsea Cogborn to open up the game. Both teams showed intense defensive tenacity and traded buckets throughout the half for a 37-32 score entering the intermission.
The Crusaders were the aggressors in the third frame as their lead grew to as much as 22 points with 1:34 remaining in the quarter, before Krenz knocked down a three and euro-step layup to stop the bleeding.
The Tornados found life with a furious rally in the fourth where Bailey Andrews stole the ball and found Bravo for a corner three to make it 72-67 with just under three minutes left. Following a timeout by UMHB, the Crusaders were able to close out the game with a pair of baskets to fend off the comeback.
