BELTON, Texas - The Concordia Texas men's basketball team was bested by Berry College, 88-83. Freshman Adonai Rezene had the best game of his young career with career-highs of 22 points, eight rebounds and two steals inside the Mayborn Campus Center on Wednesday.
It was a low scoring affair to start the game as the Tornados led 17-15 after a pair of free throws by Luis Gonzalez with 7:26 remaining. The Vikings gained an advantage after a 11-1 run to take an eight-point lead with just under four minutes remaining in the half. Concordia Texas would chisel away at the deficit and cut it down to three with a three-pointer by Corey Thompson to beat the buzzer.
A three by Rezene out of the half sparked a 7-0 run for CTX to reclaim the lead. With the score knotted up at 42-all four minutes into the second half, Berry edged ahead with an 8-0 flurry. In search of a comeback, the Tornados cut it down to 52-50 when Dylen Scales found Gonzalez for a jumper in the paint with 11:34 left. Another run by the Vikings would extend their lead to as much as 13 to help pull away late.Â
Concordia Texas will now enjoy the holiday break before returning home to host UT-Dallas on Thursday, January 4th at 7:30pm.
