ABILENE, Texas - The Concordia Texas men's basketball team was defeated in the ASC quarterfinal against Hardin-Simmons University by a score of 101-96. Five Tornados post double-figure scoring in the season finale inside the Mabee Complex on Tuesday.
The Cowboys jumped out to a 23-8 lead to start the game. Their lead reached as much as 17 points, before a putback by DJ Pigford sparked a 19-7 flurry by Concordia to cut the deficit to 43-35 with three minutes left in the first half.Â
Hardin-Simmons took a 50-39 lead into the break, and upped their advantage to 16 early in the second half. CTX would not go away quietly, as they chipped away at the Cowboys' lead and a Donovan Stafford jumper made it a 63-59 game with 12:24 left.
HSU would once again make it a double-digit game, but a final surge by the Tornados made the score 95-91 following an and-one putback by Antoine Henderson. The Cowboys would knock down their remaining free throws to hold on to the victory.
