ALPINE, Texas - The Concordia Men's basketball team took the 106-99 win in overtime against Sul Ross State University. The Tornados combined to shoot for an electric 59% from the field as five Tornados reached double figure scoring inside the Gallego Center on Saturday.
Â
Jaylon Johnson started the game on fire as he scored 15 points in the first 10 minutes of the game.
Donovan Stafford continued his hot streak with his third consecutive 25-plus scoring output. Senior big manÂ
Antoine Henderson was a force in the paint with a double-double and a season-high 10 rebounds.
Â
The Tornados went into halftime with a 3-point lead over the Lobos. In the second half, the both teams went back and forth to lead to a nail-biting ending. With the score knotted up at 89-89 deep into the second half, Johnson was fouled and knocked down a pair of free throws with 10 seconds remaining. On the final possession of regulation, the Lobos converted a buzzer-beating jumper to send the game into extra time.
Sul Ross scored the first three points of overtime, but a jumper by Stafford sparked an 8-0 burst for Concordia with just over a minute left. The Lobos made it a one score game, but an assist from
Branden Myart (Career-High 15 points) found a cutting Stafford for the emphatic slam to help put the game out of reach.Â
Â
The Concordia Men's basketball team will be back on the road next week to take on Howard Payne University on Monday, February 6 at 7:30 p.m.Â
