Tennis Takes Down Centre

The men outlasted the Colonels 5-4, and the women were victorious 7-2.

AUSTIN, Texas- The Concordia Texas men's and women's tennis team battled against Centre College in a non-conference bout, outshining the Colonels 5-4 for the men and 7-2 for the women on Saturday. Both teams are currently on eight-match win streaks after their triumphs at the Austin Tennis Academy on Saturday.
 
The Tornados men began the day dominating the doubles matches by sweeping all three matches and carried that over to singles play, edging out Colonels 5-4. At doubles line one, Joshua Bode, and Adrian Munguia won the day's first match, taking down the CC duo 8-1. Esteban Arredondo and Joeri Bregman followed, teaming up for a 8- 6 victory at line two in doubles. Securing the win for the last match of doubles for CTX, Andres Padilla and Daniel Beckles came on top victoriously with a 8-7 win. 
 
Bode won his second match of the day in singles play, conquering CC's Ghamgosar by a score of 6-1, 6-4. Arredondo attained the win at line five for the Tornados, dropping the first set then coming on top for the next two, toppling Whitt for a total score of 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 and clinching the victory for Concordia.
 
The Tornados women's tennis team took an early lead in the matchup, dominating all three doubles matches.  At line one in the first double match, Isabella Wiik and Kaitlin Stevens took down the duo by a score of 8-4.  Kayla Pena and Isabella Cepeda teamed up at line two, walking away with an 8-4 score. Claire Austin and Trinity Klamecki continued dominant play for CTX, extending the overall lead to 3 to 0, winning at line three 7-2 in doubles. 
 
In singles, Pena won her second match of the day at line one taking down CC's Rueff  by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Wiik at line two, defeated Hill in three sets by a score of 7-5, 6-7, 10-6. Cepeda rallied against her opponent Mitchell in three sets to come on top by a score of 6-3, 5-7, 10-5. At line six, Stevens stayed unbeaten for the day, closing out the win for the tornadoes with a 7-6, 6-1 score. 
 
The Tornados will look to continue their hot win streak on Thursday the 23rd, traveling down the road to Leander, Texas for a non-conference matchup against Hendrix College at 6 PM.
