AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia softball team celebrated their seniors in the doubleheader home finale agaisnt Howard Payne. The Tornados split a the pair of games and run-ruled the Yellowjackets in game one of Senior Day at Tornado Softball Field.
GAME ONE: W, 14-6 (6 Innings)
Howard Payne posted two runs on five hits in the opening frame, but CTX evened the score when Emily Schmuck and Grace Coleman tallied RBIs to score Kylie Denaro and Mindy Matthews.
The Tornados then took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the second with a Nadia Lopez RBI-single and Denaro advancing to home. They then upped their lead to 5-2 in the fourth when Cristina Ayala cranked a RBI-triple to the right field wall. Scoring three more runs in the inning, Ayala, Denaro, Matthews and Zalexis Perez raced home for an 9-2 advantage.
Howard Payne reduced to 9-6 in the top of the fifth, but CTX answered in the bottom half with a two-RBI single by Lopez to send Ayala and Hooper home. They then upped the lead to 13-6 with a two-RBI double by Emily Moses to score Denaro and Lopez. Putting the finishing touches on in the sixth, Lopez hit a RBI-triple up the right field line for the run-rule victory.

GAME TWO: L, 7-4
Howard Payne opened up the game with the first four runs, but a single through the right side by Hooper resulted in Coleman and chmuck scoring for a 4-2 game after two innings.
The Yellowjackets took a 7-2 lead by adding three runs in the fourth. Both offense stalled until the final inning. Howard Payne juiced the bases, but the Tornados stood strong and allowed no runs.
Down to their final three outs, Hooper and Congalton started things off right with a back-to-back triples. Emma Chavez would then bring in Congalton with a sac-bunt bunt. Down to their last out, Ayala tallied Concordia's third triple of the inning but the Yellowjackets would hold on for a 7-4 win.
