ROUND ROCK, Texas -
Maddie Oberholtzer and
Payton Matthews found the back of the net in a 4-2 decision against number three ranked JUCO in the nation, Tyler Junior College. The Tornados notched one goal in both halves at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex on Friday.
The Apaches struck first on a counterattack in the 21st minute. CTX quickly responded a minute later when
Erin Folkner and
Kaley Kaspar connected with a streaking Oberholtzer down the right side to knot the game up at one-apiece. Tyler then took a 2-1 advantage into the half after another goal in the 37th minute.
The Apaches stretched their lead to 4-1 with a pair of early goals in the second half, but the Tornados cut the deficit in half on a beautiful corner from
Feleicia Cortazar that found Matthews for the score. This would be the final score of the match as the Tornados fought valiantly until the end.
Concordia Texas will now shift their focus to division I foe UTRGV this Sunday, September 3rd at noon on ESPN+.
