WENHAM, Massachusetts- The Concordia Texas men's soccer team battled in a hard fought draw, 1-1, against Gordon College. Within the first two minutes of the game, freshman Jesse Garfias received a cross pass from Bernabe Torres to score the first goal of season for the Tornados.
Both teams were strong offensively with CTX shooting eight shots and Gordon College attempting nine. Junior goalie Brock Hendrickson secured four saves for the night in his regular season debut.
Threatening to score, Torres crossed the ball to the far post where it fell to Garfias' feet for the score. From there on, both teams were searching for the elusive next goal. Neither team would score heading into halftime as CTX nursed the 1-0 advantage.
The Fighting Scots knotted the match up at 1-apiece with a goal immediately out of the second half. Both squads would see numerous opportunities throughout the remainder of play, but neither could break through for the go-ahead goal.
The Tornados will now return to Texas and head to Houston to take on the University of St. Thomas on Friday, September 8th at 7 PM.
