GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Concordia University Texas volleyball team was defeated in four sets against Southwestern in match one of the Southwestern Fall Invitational. The Tornados claimed game one of the match inside of the Corbin Robertson Center on Thursday.
The Tornados and Pirates were knotted up at 9-9 in the opening set. Southwestern gained separation with a 4-0 run, but Concordia answered with a 4-1 run that was sparked by a Rayna Pack kill. Both teams would be neck-and-neck at 17-all when a kill by Olivia Robinson initiated a 6-1 sprint by CTX. They would then earn the game one victory at 25-20 with a kill by Presley Bunting.
The Pirates jumped out to a 11-3 lead in the set two. This would prove to be the run to set them apart as Southwestern tied the series with a 25-15.
In the go-ahead set, both teams were knotted up at 7-all early. The Pirates then utilized a 6-1 burst to force a Tornados timeout. Out of the break in action, both teams went back and forth as the Pirates would steer to a 25-19 game three win.
Carrying momentum into the fourth set, Southwestern scored 10 of the first 11 points. They would ultimately fend off CTX & win 25-14 to earn the match victory.Â
The Tornados will have a quick turnaround where they will compete in two matches tomorrow at the Southwestern Fall Invitational on Friday beginning at 10am.
