ABILENE, Texas - The Concordia Texas men's basketball team posted a valiantly comeback effort but ultimately fell short, 97-84 against McMurry University. Junior guard Donovan Stafford tallied team-highs of 18 points and seven rebounds inside Kimbrell Arena on Thursday.
Both teams were efficient in the first half for a 30-30 tie through the first 15 minutes of play. The Warhawks led by one with just over three minutes left, before they finished the half on a 12-2 run to take a 49-38 lead into the break.
Their advantage reached as much as 14 points with just over 17 minutes remaining, before DJ Pigford connected with Corey Thompson to spark 19-5 outburst to knot the game at 64-all. McMurry responded with a 16-0 run to take control of the game at 80-64 with 8:44 left. They would utilize that run to keep CTX at bay to hold on for the victory.
Concordia Texas will now remain in Abilene where they will take on Hardin-Simmons this Saturday at 3 p.m.
