LONGVIEW, Texas - The Concordia Texas men's basketball team poured in a season-high 11 threes in a 83-70 victory over LeTourneau University. Donovan Stafford tallied a team-high 21 points, while Adolfo Martinez & Corey Thompson added on 16 apiece inside the Solheim Arena on Thursday.
It was a low-scoring affair early on as the Tornados only led 6-2 through the first six minutes of the game. The Tornados would find a rhythm offensively and push their lead to 16-7 following a strong and-1 layup by Dylen Scales.Â
LeTourneau responded with a 18-1 explosion to claim their first lead of the game with just under five minutes left in the first half. Concordia would counterpunch with an 9-0 burst capped by a four-point play from Corey Thompson to give Concordia the lead back at 26-25 with 3:29 left in the half.Â
Both  teams traded buckets in the final minutes, and Concordia would take a 34-31 lead into the break when Scales found Adolfo Martinez at the top of the key to beat the buzzer.Â
Concordia came out firing on all cylinders as they pushed their lead to 52-38 through the first five minutes of the second half. They maintained a healthy lead throughout the half and a final push would up their lead to as much as 19 points with 4:45 left in the game.
A last ditch effort by the Yellowjackets would cut the deficit to 78-68 with two minutes remaining, but Stafford would close out the game with a three from the wing.Â
Concordia Texas will now head to Marshall, Texas to take on ETBU this Saturday, January 25th at 3pm.
