MARSHALL,Texas- The Concordia women's basketball team was outdueled in a 64-46 contest at East Texas Baptist University. Sophomore guard Jordan Bravo posted a team-high 17 points inside Ornelas Gymnasium on Saturday.
The Tigers notched the first points of the game, but CTX junior guard Daysha Tijerina immediately responded driving into the paint and drew a foul to put Concordia on the board with a pair of free throws. Midway through the first, Bravo sunk in the first three-pointer of the game to tie it 5-5. Tijerina then put the Tornados up by one to end the first quarter with a deep three pointer, 10-9.
ETBU opened up the second quarter with an 8-0 run, before a steal and score by Tijerina stopped the bleeding. A little under halfway through the second quarter, Concordia went on a 8-2 run to make it a two point game, 22-24. Both teams continued to trade buckets with ETBU leading into the break.
To open up the second half, the Tigers sparked a 12-5 run to push their lead to 44-31. Both teams would utilize zone defense throughout the remainder of the game, but ETBU would ultimately pull away to victory.
Following a month on the road, Concordia Texas will host Howard Payne University inside Concordia Fieldhouse on February 1st at 5:30 pm.
