AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas volleyball team conclude the SCAC Crossover & 2024 campaign with a pair of matchups on Saturday. The Tornados were downed 3-1 in both matches against Colorado College & St. Thomas.
vs. Colorado College, L 3-1
A kill by Brooklynne Fitzgerald put CTX up 8-6 early in the first set, before a a 9-3 burst by the Tigers put them up 14-11. With Colorado up 16-14, the Tigers put set one away with a 9-1 run.Â
CTX once again led early in the first set with a 7-4 advantage, but the Tigers took control with a 7-0 run. A 4–1 run by Concordia late in the frame reduced the deficit to 24-20, but the Tigers would hold on to up 2-0 in the series.
Concordia would outpace Colorado in the third set for a 22-17 advantage. The Tigers responded with four straight points to make it a one score game, but a kill by Kaitlin Goertz would give CTX their first win of the match.Â
It was another close matchup in game four as both teams were knotted up at 18-all late. The Tigers would close out the match on a 7-2 run to edge the Tornados.
vs. St. Thomas, L 3-1
The Celts led 14-12 before using a 11-3 run to help claim the first set. St. Thomas then held a 9-8 before collecting five straight points. CTX would chisel away at the deficit to make it a 20-19 game in set two. As both teams traded points, St. Thomas would escape with a 25-23 win to go up 2-0 in the match.
In game three, the Tornados led 21-20 but the Celts rallied three straight points to take the lead. CTX would then answer with the final four points of the set as an ace by Rayna Pack secured the game. St. Thomas started off game four hot with a 10-3 lead. This would be enough momentum to propel them to a 25-14 win in the final match of the season.Â
