WACO, Texas - The Concordia Texas men's tennis team won their second straight American Southwest Conference Tournament championship in a 5-1 decision over East Texas Baptist University. The Tornados have now earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
All three doubles matches came down to the wire as
Daniel Beckles and
Kishan Kersten were able to overcome a 3-0 deficit to win 8-6 on flight two. The tandem of
Esteban Arredondo and
Joeri Bregman also outlasted their opponents 8-6 to put the Tornados up 2-0. The Tigers barely edged out
Joshua Bode and
Adrian Munguia on flight one at 8-7 (7-5 tiebreaker).
Kersten (6-0, 6-0) and Beckles (6-0, 6-3) kept up the momentum from their doubles match to give Concordia a 4-1 advantage. Fellow freshman
Steven Scholz closed out the victory with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph on flight three to secure the victory.
Concordia Texas will now await word on where they will compete in the NCAA Tournament. The selection show is set for 12pm this Monday, May 6th. A link to the show will be on the front page of NCAA.com.Â
