GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Concordia Texas men's basketball team outlasted Southwestern University by a score of 78-75. Donovan Stafford led all scorers with 21 points inside the Robertson Center on Friday.
The Pirates jumped out to an 8-2 lead but Concordia responded with 13 straight points that was capped by a swipe and layup by Corey Thompson with 11:51 remaining in the first half.Â
The Pirates would reclaim the lead at 29-28 with 4:19 left as their lead would grow to as much as 38-26. CTX would minimize the damage as they would go into the half only trailing 38-34.
The Tornados would regain the advantage at 46-45 with 15:40 left when Aaron San Miguel found Thompson for another layup. Later in the half, the Tornados would find breathing room where a find from Stafford connected with a Joey Ramirez layup to give CTX their largest lead of the game at 67-58 at the 6:38 mark.
Southwestern answered and made it a one-score game with just over two minutes left. With both teams trading buckets at the wire, the Pirates would have one final chance to tie the game. The corner three would fall short as Concordia held on for the victory.
