AUSTIN, Texas—Concordia University Texas today has announced Matt Wallis as its new Director of Athletics. Wallis has served Concordia Texas for more than a decade, serving as head coach of the women's basketball program since 2013 and most recently as associate athletic director.
In these roles, he advanced staff development, strengthened donor and community partnerships, launched athletics branding initiatives, and mentored coaches and student-athletes across programs.
"I consider it a true blessing to be appointed as the Director of Athletics at Concordia University Texas," Wallis said. "I am both humbled and honored to be entrusted with this responsibility and fully committed to supporting the continued success of our exceptional coaches and student-athletes. I sincerely thank Dr. Kristi Kirk for her confidence and leadership, which make this opportunity possible."
"Matt's leadership reflects Concordia Texas's mission to prepare leaders for lives of service," Concordia Texas President Dr. Kristi Kirk said. "His years of dedication to the Christ centered values of the University, as well as the values of D3 Athletics, combined with his proven ability to grow programs and mentor coaches and student-athletes, make him the right person to lead CTX Athletics into the future."
With Wallis stepping into the director role, Brianna Marstaller has been promoted to head coach of the women's basketball program. A Concordia Texas alumna and four-year student-athlete, Marstaller has been part of CTX Athletics for more than a decade, growing from graduate assistant to associate head coach.
"Brianna Marstaller has been an integral part of Concordia University Texas Athletics," Wallis said. "Having worked alongside her for 12 years, I trust Bri completely as both a coach and a person. She leads with integrity, makes sound decisions and cares deeply for her student-athletes. I have full confidence that the program is in excellent hands, and I am excited to see the future she will build as the next head coach."
As director of athletics, Wallis will oversee Concordia's 15 intercollegiate athletic programs, expand opportunities such as women's beach volleyball, and continue strengthening community and donor relationships.
