BELTON, Texas - The Concordia Texas women's basketball team earned their first win of the season as they outlasted UMHB by a score of 58-56.
Samantha Ising posted a career-high 13 rebounds, while
Zoiey Jumawan recorded a season-high 13 points off the bench to help spark the Tornados at the Mayborn Campus Center on Saturday.
The win on Saturday marked
Brianna Marstaller's first win as the head coach at Concordia Texas. CTX also won on UMHB's home court for the first time since December 13, 2024.
In what was a defensive battle throughout, the first basket was not scored until the 6:34 mark of the first quarter. The Crusaders jumped out to a 6-0 lead to help carry a 14-10 lead into the second quarter.
Concordia claimed their first lead of the contest in the final minute of the first half when
Taysie Trejo fed
Madison Martinez on the wing for a three that put CTX up 23-20 at half time.
A third-quarter comeback by UMHB gave them a 45-39 lead with just under nine minutes remaining left in the game. Concordia would find a rhythm offensively in the final mintues with a 15-5 surge gave them their largest lead of the game at 56-52 with only two minutes left.
The Crusaders tied the game at 56-all with 43 seconds left, but Ising's fourth offensive rebound of the game would result in her getting fouled. Ising would step up to the free throw line and notch a go-ahead free throw with a split. Concordia would once again stand tall with a defensive stop to help prevail in the clutch.
