AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's basketball team came up just short in a 59-57 overtime thriller against East Texas Baptist on Saturday afternoon inside the Deb & Don Christian Fieldhouse. Despite a balanced scoring effort and a strong rebounding performance, the Tornados couldn't hold off the Tigers in the extra period.
CTX opened with energy, racing to a 13-6 lead after the first quarter behind Shanna Brown's inside presence and rebounds by Samantha Ising. The Tigers responded in the second frame, shooting nearly 53 percent from the floor to surge ahead 29-23 at halftime.
The Tornados battled back in the third quarter, outscoring ETBU 20-17 thanks to perimeter shooting from Katelyn Tietjen and steady playmaking by Taysie Trejo. Heading into the fourth, Concordia trailed by just three, and Brown's putback tied the game late to force overtime.
In the extra session, ETBU's Macey Jones and Hanna Ayala combined for clutch baskets, while Concordia managed only four points. A final defensive stand by the Tigers sealed the narrow victory.
Trejo paced the Tornados with 14 points and 7 rebounds, while Brown posted a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds. Tietjen added 14 points and four steals, and Ising anchored the defense with five blocks.
Concordia finished with 50 rebounds and 18 points off turnovers, but ETBU's bench production (20 points) and second-chance opportunities proved decisive.
