GEORGETOWN, Texas – In a contest that was delayed over 10 hours with inclement weather in the area, fifth-seeded McMurry University earned a 8-3 win over fourth-seeded Concordia in a matchups of SCAC Softball Tournament debutants to open the 2025 Tournament at Taylor-Sanders Field on the campus of Southwestern University.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game one got underway Thursday afternoon and opened with a first inning explosion from McMurry as the War Hawks posted six runs in the top half of the inning courtesy of a trio of two RBI doubles off the bats of Trista Brown, Tristyn Barton and Aliyah Tanguma.
- Weather moved in during the bottom half of the first and forced the game into an overnight delay and was resumed at 10 AM Friday morning.
- Concordia struck first following the delay, getting on the board in the bottom half of the second inning when Christan Everett singled into center field scoring Harley Drouillard, making it 6-1 going into the third inning.
- McMurry pushed the lead back to six when Maya Mongelli crushed her third home run of the season over the center field wall in the top half of the fourth inning.
- Concordia pulled within four runs at 7-3 going into the seventh inning after Kylie Kirk singled to center to score Malarie Mican in the fifth and Caylee Spangle scored in the sixth, but McMurry would add one final insurance run in the seventh to finish off the 8-3 win
Concordia Texas will now play in a game against the loser of St. Thomas & Trinity tomorrow at 4pm.
