AUSTIN, Texas — Concordia University Texas has named Gabriel Palomares as its new head esports coach, bringing fresh leadership to the University's growing esports program. With extensive experience in competitive gaming, content creation and player development, Palomares is poised to elevate the Tornados' presence on the national esports stage.
Palomares has more than two years of casting and coaching experience and six years immersed in competitive gaming and streaming. He has served in leadership roles across multiple titles — including Overwatch and Marvel Rivals — as both team captain and in-game leader. He has also coached players in Apex Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Marvel Rivals. Most recently, he worked as program manager at The Foundry in Austin, supporting small businesses and leading community engagement initiatives.
Known in the gaming community as Coach_gap, Palomares has built a strong online presence through educational content and mentorship. Bilingual in Spanish and English, he is recognized for his ability to foster inclusive, team-oriented environments and mentor players both individually and collectively.

The esports program at Concordia University Texas provides a Christ-centered, competitive and welcoming environment for student gamers of all backgrounds. CTX esports student-athletes compete nationally in popular titles such as League of Legends, Valorant, Overwatch 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Players have access to performance-based scholarships and benefit from a holistic approach that emphasizes leadership, communication and critical thinking.
