CONWAY, Ark. – The Concordia University Texas women's soccer team earned a 2-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) victory over Hendrix College on Sunday afternoon at Warrior Soccer Field. The Tornados picked up their second consecutive conference win behind a two-goal performance from Maddie Oberholtzer.
Concordia controlled much of the action from the opening whistle, holding Hendrix without a shot in the first half while creating several offensive opportunities of its own. The Tornados broke through in the 32nd minute when Cecilia Escobar connected with Oberholtzer, who found the back of the net to give CTX a 1-0 lead.
The Tornados continued their momentum into the second half and doubled their advantage in the 54th minute. Oberholtzer struck again, this time finishing off a pass from Sari Hernandez to make it 2-0.
Hendrix increased its pressure as the match wore on and cut the deficit to one in the 74th minute when Sarah Jones scored for the Warriors. Despite the late push, Concordia's defense held firm over the final 15 minutes to secure the conference victory.
Kylie Bourquin played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded two saves. Escobar and Hernandez each contributed assists, while Oberholtzer paced the attack with two goals on two shots on target.
Concordia finished with a 12-5 advantage in shots while limiting Hendrix to just three shots on goal. The Tornados also matched the Warriors with two corner kicks and held the edge in possession throughout much of the contest.
Concordia Texas will return home on Thursday, October 29, to take on McMurry University.
