Tornados Come Up Just Short in Season Finale at Schreiner

Tornados control the tempo early behind Holmes’ hot shooting before Schreiner’s fourth-quarter push seals the outcome

KERRVILLE, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's basketball team closed out its 2025–26 campaign with a narrow 55–53 road loss to Schreiner on Saturday afternoon inside Stephens Family Arena. Despite a strong first half and a standout performance from senior guard Aja Holmes, the Tornados were unable to withstand a late Mountaineer push in the fourth quarter.

CTX controlled the early tempo, shooting over 53% in the opening period and getting balanced scoring from its starting group to take a 15–12 lead after one. The Tornados continued to execute efficiently in the second quarter, sparked by Holmes' hot hand from beyond the arc. The guard knocked down back‑to‑back threes as part of a 10‑point frame, helping CTX build a 31–23 advantage at the break.

Schreiner began to chip away in the third, capitalizing on second‑chance opportunities and CTX turnovers to trim the margin. The Mountaineers outscored the Tornados 16–10 in the period, cutting the lead to 41–39 heading into the fourth.

The final quarter featured multiple momentum swings. Taysie Trejo opened with a transition three to push the lead back to five, and Holmes added two more free throws to keep CTX in front. But Schreiner responded with a decisive run, highlighted by a go‑ahead three from Brie Sosa with just over two minutes remaining. The Tornados had late opportunities including a pair of free throws and a final possession in the closing seconds but could not convert as the Mountaineers held on.

Holmes led all CTX scorers with 19 points on 6–9 shooting, including a perfect 3–3 from deep. Trejo added 15 points and two steals, while Alice Wilkinson provided six points and five rebounds. Concordia won the battle in the paint (26 points) and shot 54% in the first half, but Schreiner's 12 second‑chance points and 22 points off turnovers proved to be the difference.
