KERRVILLE, Texas – Second-Seed Concordia University (Texas) advanced to the program's first-ever SCAC Women's Tennis Tournament Championship following a 4-2 victory over third-seeded University of St. Thomas on Saturday morning at the Kerrville Tennis Complex. Concordia opened the scoring, winning the doubles point following wins at both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles lines. The Tornados opened the action in doubles as Kailey Albrect and Alyssa Estrella secured a 6-2 win at the three line, before Emily Pullen and Valerie Sanchez posted a 6-4 win at No. 2 to deliver the doubles point for Concordia.
St. Thomas evened the score at 1-1 to open singles play when Mariel Herrera earned a 6-4, 6-4, win a No. 3 singles.
Concordia responded, pushing the Tornados to within one point of a trip to the SCAC Championship as both Albrect and Sanchez won at No. 6 and No. 2 singles respectively. Albrect won, 6-2, 6-0, while Sanchez won 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 to put CTX on top 3-1 with three matches left on court.
The Celts continued to fight, pulling withing one, 3-2, after Adriana Iturralde won 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 5 line.
With the final two matches in the third set, Concordia slammed the door shut when Aria Moreni fought back after losing the first set to win 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) and push the Tornados into the SCAC Championship.
The Tornados improve to 12-5 on the year, while the Celts drop to 8-5 on the season.
