Softball Outlasted in Extra-Inning Battle with Ozarks

Tornados close out 2026 campaign with a program-best 30 wins.

ABILENE, Texas - In the finals of the consolation bracket of the SCAC Tournament, the Concordia Texas battled back multiple times but came up short in a 6-4 loss to the University of the Ozarks in an eight-inning contest Sunday night.

After three scoreless innings, the Ozarks broke through with a run in the fourth and added another in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead.

Concordia answered in the bottom of the fifth, stringing together four hits to tie the game. Karlee Mathis and Kamryn Kothman opened the inning with singles, and after a sacrifice bunt, Malarie Mican delivered a clutch two-RBI double to even the score at 2-2.

Ozarks regained the lead in the seventh on a solo home run, but the Tornados responded again in the bottom half. Christian Everett reached and moved into scoring position before Katie Bethke came through with an RBI single to tie the game at 3-3.

The game shifted in the eighth as Ozarks capitalized on a defensive miscue and timely hitting to plate three runs and take a 6-3 advantage. Concordia tried to answer in the bottom half, as Kylie Kirk doubled and later scored on an RBI single from Mathis, but the rally fell short.

With the loss, the 2026 campaign comes to a close for the Tornados. CTX notched a program-best 30 wins and held their first ever national ranking this season. Thank you all for another amazing season.
