The 2009-2010 season is Steve Cochran's second season at the helm of the women’s basketball program at Concordia University Texas. During his inaugural season with the Tornados, he led them to an 11-12 overall record and one game out from clinching a spot in the American Southwest Conference Tournament. He was also voted as the ASC West Co-Coach of the Year.
In addition to his leadership with the women's basketball program, Cochran is also the facility coordinator for Concordia Fieldhouse.
Prior to coming to Concordia in 2008, Cochran served as the head women's basketball coach at Rockford College for one season. He took Rockford from 8-17 the previous year to a 15-10 overall record and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAC conference tournament.
Before becoming the head coach at Rockford, Cochran served as an assistant coach at Maryville University in St. Louis. Cochran, under Head Coach Chris Ellis, helped the Saints to a 22-5 overall record and a NCAA Division III Tournament berth in 2006-07.
Before his stint at Maryville, Cochran spent eight years at perennial power Washington University (Mo.). In his eight years with storied head coach Nancy Fahey, Cochran enjoyed a stellar 211-17 record that included eight University Athletic Association championships and four NCAA Division III national championships, which he earned in his first four years at Washington. In 2002-03, Cochran was awarded the highest honor an assistant coach can attain, the AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year.
Before his days at WU, Cochran served as a girls assistant coach at St. Louis’ Incarnate Word Academy and Parkway South High School. At IWA, he helped the team to a five-year record of 133-13 including three state semifinal appearances and the 1995 Missouri State Championship. In his three seasons at Parkway South, Cochran directed a squad that posted a 72-12 record and a pair of Elite 8 appearances. Early in his coaching career, Cochran spent two seasons as a part-time head coach at Division I St. Louis University.
A native of St. Louis, Cochran earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri. Cochran and his wife Kathy have two sons, Ryan (18) and Quinn (16).
