Concordia Volleyball Finished 2008 Strong

AUSTIN, TX- Concordia University Texas volleyball picked up a win against Sul Ross State University in their final match of the 2008 season. The 3-1 victory improved Concordia to 10-18 overall and 6-12 in the American Southwest Conference. The loss drops the Lobos to 2-25 and 0-18.

The match began by honoring the Concordia volleyball seniors Ana Rodriguez, Valerie Martinez, Juli Applewhaite, Jackie Gerard and Sara Keithley, for all of their efforts in Tornado uniforms. The Concordia volleyball team also took the time to honor each player's parents. 

The excitement of the evening pared with strong offensive attack by the Tornados made the difference in the match pacing Concordia to their 3-1 victory. 

In set one Concordia came out strong with momentum behind them they quickly jumped ahead and never looked back picking up 10 straight points to take the 25-11 win. 

The Lobos kept set two within one throughout, until taking the two point advantage giving them the 27-25 win off a strong service ace. Although, Concordia bounced back in the third set as they dominated the Lobos 25-12 to take the two-sets to one lead. 

Finally in the final set the Tornados rallied for the final three points to finish the Lobos in a 25-20 victory to clinch the match. 

Concordia offense was led by Juli Applewhaite who finished with a triple-double recording 13 kills, 13 assists and 13 digs in her final game in a Tornado uniform. 

Other top performers were sophomore Carrie Fisk with 12 kills and Sydney Johnson with 9 kills. Senior Valerie Martinez finished with 26 assists while; Senior Sara Keithley added 20 digs to her career total.
As a team Concordia dominated the Lobos with 58 kills and 17 serving aces. Concordia finished with a .234 attacking percentage. 

The victory marked the first athletic event along with the first ever win in the new Concordia Texas Field House.
