KERRVILLE, Texas- Concordia University Texas softball was swept in their American Southwest Conference (ASC) by the Schreiner Mountaineers in day one of their two day series Friday afternoon. The Tornados were shut-out 7-0 in game one followed by a 5-3 loss in game two.
The Tornados fall to 8-8 overall and 0-2 in ASC action while, Schreiner improves to 13-4 overall and 2-0 in ASC.
In game one, it was a rough start for the Tornados as Schreiner scored all of their seven runs in the first inning off five hits. Concordia did little to combat the first inning offense as they finished with only three hits in the game.
Game two started much the same as Schreiner hit a grand slam in the first to give them the 4-0 lead. Concordia finally got on the board in the fourth as they scored two runs off three hits including RBI singles by
Carranda Goree and
Danielle Faschingbauer.
SU answered in the bottom of the fifth off an RBI single that scored the final run for the Mountaineers.
Concordia tried to close the gap in the sixth as
Jessica Rattan hit a solo homerun to put the Tornados within two.
In the seventh, Concordia was threatening with two on and two outs although a run-down ended the game as Schreiner took the 5-3 victory.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday to finalized the ASC series at Schreiner's Field. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at noon.
