BROWNWOOD, Texas – Concordia University Texas softball dropped two American Southwest Conference (ASC) games to Howard Payne University on Friday afternoon at Lady Jacket Field. In game one the Tornados fell 5-1 before falling 3-2 in the second game of the doubleheader.

Concordia is now 19-19 overall and 10-12 in ASC action while Howard Payne improves to 28-8 overall and 16-6 in the ASC.

In game one the Tornados scored a solo run in the seventh inning off an RBI single by freshman Lauren Vansickle. Although the solo run wasn't enough to combat Howard Payne's five runs giving them the 5-1 victory.

The Tornados finished with four runs while committing four errors in the loss.

Game two was decided in the tenth inning as with tie breaker procedure, Howard Payne and Concordia each started with a runner in scoring position although the Yellow Jackets were able to drive in an RBI in the tenth to give them the 3-1 win.

Concordia scored solo runs in the first and fifth inning after Carri Goree doubled in the first inning and the Tornados took advantage of a Yellow Jacket error in the fifth to score a solo run. The Tornados maintained the lead until Howard Payne tied the game at two all in the seventh sending the game into
extra innings.

Both teams finalized the game with five hits while Concordia committed only one error.

They will finish the ASC series tomorrow with a double header starting at noon in Brownwood.
