CTX Breaks Hardin-Simmons 17-Game Streak

Round Rock, Texas- Concordia Texas Tornados (17-10, 9-4 ASC) faced the traveling Hardin-Simmons University Cowgirls (22-7, 13-0 ASC), in an American Southwest Conference series Friday night at Old Settlers Park. Concordia fell in game one 5-4 before coming back in game two to break HSU's 17-game win streak with a 12-9 victory. 

In the bottom of the second senior Karen Smart hit a solo homerun to tie the first game at one all. In the bottom of the second sophomore Jodi Hierholzer reached on an error by the third baseman scoring senior Ashley Bolton to tie the game at two. 

With the Tornados trailing 2-5 in the bottom of the sixth, sophomore Jessica rattan homered to bring the Tornados with in one, 4-5. 

Unfortunately, the Cowgirls where too much for the Tornados, as they were able to hold the 5-4 lead for their 13th-straight conference win. 

In game two of the double header Hardin-Simmons took an early three run lead. In the bottom of the first Jessica Rattan tied the game with a three run homerun. 

With the scored tied at three all, Lauren Vansickle hit a two run inside the park homerun. 

Hardin-Simmons added a run in the top of the third to bring the cowgirls within one. Dominguez again homered. The next batter was Ashley Bolton who reached on an error. Bolton came around to score after Ramirez hit a two run homerun to give the Tornados an 8-4 lead. In the bottom of the fifth with the score tied at 8, Karen Smart and Dominguez both added solo homeruns to give the Tornados an 10-8 lead. 

After the Cowgirls added another run to make the score 9-10, Concordia continued the tradition of only driving in runs with homeruns when junior Carri Goree added a two run homerun to increase the lead to 12-9. 

Ramirez pitched the entire game for the win. The win put her at 7-3 on the season and also snapped a 17-game win streak by the Cowgirls. 

The ASC record for homeruns in a game was formerly held by University of Texas Tyler with five homeruns against University of Texas-Dallas on April 12, 2007. Concordia set a new record hitting seven homeruns in game two for a new ASC record. 

The series will continue tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at noon. Concordia will honor their seniors prior to the start of the games tomorrow.
