AUSTIN, Texas --- The Waltz brothers gave Concordia a 1-0 advantage early, but CTX would allow three unanswered goals, and suffer a 3-1 defeat to the hands of the University of Texas-Dallas Thursday at St. Stephen's Field. The Tornados drop its fourth-straight game and fall to (4-11-0, 2-8-0 ASC) on the year.
In the 21st minute CTX would stun a highly favored Texas Dallas team as
James Waltz received a beautiful cross from
Mathew Waltz, and struck a low liner that beat a diving UTD goalkeeper for a 1-0 advantage. The Comets (10-4-2, 7-2-2 ASC) would answer back with the first of three, when Ryan Courson came across a cross that was deflected by CTX goalkeeper
Jacob Stern, and punch it in the back of the net just before the end of the half.
Eric Pekkala was the hero for UTD as the junior scored from 40 yards out in the 50th minute to give the Comets a 2-1 lead. In the 77th minute Courson collected his second goal of the game to cap off the 3-1 UTD victory.
It was a fast and physical game as both sides collected a combined 26 shots, 16 fouls and five yellow cards in the match. CTX goalkeepers
Jacob Stern and
Todd Edgington faced 20 shots (eight on goal) while the Tornados attempted six shots (three on goal).
The Tornados will return to St. Stephen's field Saturday to host the University of the Ozarks at 3:00 p.m. CTX will honor its three seniors,
Oscar Diaz,
James Waltz and Matthew Waltz in its last home game of the season.
