AUSTIN, Texas - Senior goalkeeper Leonel Cuellar has been named Concordia Texas Male Athlete of the Month for October following a dominant stretch between the posts.
The Ascension Seton Athlete of the Month recognizes one male and one female Concordia Texas student-athlete each month for outstanding performances in competition.
Cuellar helped lead the Tornados to a 7-1 record in SCAC play, contributing to a conference-best five shutouts throughout the month. Concordia allowed just four goals in the eight conference matches, the fewest in the SCAC, while securing the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the conference tournament.
The Midlothian native earned SCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors on October 19 after recording back-to-back shutouts against Centenary and St. Thomas. Cuellar totaled eight saves across the two matches, including six second-half stops against St. Thomas to preserve a 1-0 victory. Cuellar's consistency and timely saves were instrumental in anchoring one of the conference's toughest defenses in the month of October.
