ROUND ROCK, Texas --
After dropping the opening game of a doubleheader on Saturday 6-5, the Concordia University Texas softball team bounced back to gain a split with a decisive 8-0 nightcap win over visiting Schreiner University at Old Settlers Park.

The Tornados (6-8, 3-1 ASC) plated four runs in both the second and the fourth innings while proceeding to post a shutout win over the Mountaineers (3-9, 1-3 ASC).  #Meghan Ferrell# posted two hits to lead Concordia in the run-rule shortened contest.  Freshman right-hander #Haylee Staton# (2-3) recorded the first shutout of her career after tossing five innings and scattering four hits to earn the win.

Schreiner posted a win in the opener of the doubleheader as the Tornados left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning.  #Erin Duhon# doubled to left center to start the inning off for CTX.  Two batter later, #Elizabeth Rojo# singled up the middle, which sent Duhon to third.  A single through the left side by Staton sent Duhon plateward and advanced Rojo to second.  After a fly out to right field by #Lauren Vansickle#, #Vicky Recek# singled to left field, which loaded the bases.  With two outs the Tornados were threatening but Rebecca Hay forced #Kassie Fuller# to foul on along the third base line to end the contest.

#Lyssa Yates# (1-4) took the loss for Concordia after surrendering eight hits and six runs in four and two-thirds innings of work.  Yates struck out five.

On the day, Duhon paced the Tornados at the plate by going 4-for-7 with three doubles.  Recek and #Jessica Rattan# each recorded three hits in the doubleheader for the Tornados.

Concordia won the four-game series with Schreiner, winning three of the four games.  The Tornados will return to action on Friday, March 19 at Sul Ross State University in Alpine.
