ALPINE, Texas -- #Candace Velasquez# was a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate with two home runs in to lead the Concordia University Texas softball team to a pair of big wins over Sul Ross State on Friday night at Lady Lobo Field. Concordia (8-8, 5-1 ASC) won by scores of 18-3 and 14-2.
Concordia set season highs in the opening doubleheader of the four-game series by racking up 18 runs in the opener and 15 hits in the nightcap.
Velasquez had a career day at the plate. In addition to her six hits, the sophomore infielder scored four runs and drove in four. Both of her home runs came in the opener.
Freshman #Haylee Staton# also had a career day, going 5-of-7 with two doubles, four RBI and her first career round tripper. The reigning ASC West Pitcher of the Week also scored a team-best five runs in the double dip.
Overall, the Tornados pounded out 29 hits and plated 32 runs in the doubleheader against the winless Lady Lobos (0-20, 0-6 ASC).
The two teams will play another doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. at Lady Lobo Field.
